10 Things I'm Sure of Now That I'm 40

Today is my 40th birthday and promises to be full of wonderful things to share in a future post, but in the mean time, here's a short list of stuff I've figured out so far... I think.

1. I'm not as fat as I think I am.

2. Be respectful and show gratitude to everyone: especially people who do the difficult, thankless, dirty jobs that make my life easier and better. That's a lot of people.

3. Gratitude is the key to sanity.

4. Digital meat thermometer probes won't survive the dishwasher... ever.

5. Digital meat thermometers don't survive very long, period.

6. Kids need a garden, mud, animals, bugs, good food, lots and LOTS of affection and grandparents.

7. I need to live in the country.

8. I need to visit the city regularly.

9. My husband loves me more than I realize or give him credit for.

10. Even on my worst day, my life is better than I ever dreamed it would be and I wouldn't change it for anything.

HARDLY!

Everyone knows only a mom says stuff like that.

So, thanks, Mom. :)

Those are some pretty good things to know for sure. Especially about the meat thermometer. How is a meat thermometer different from a candy thermometer?

HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

You looked fabulous on your 40th which is a great way to start a new decade.

Your girls and your mother are lovely too.

And speaking of thanking people: thank you for shopping at my store and loving my aprons. It makes me happy when people love my aprons.

And thank your mother for me too!

A meat thermometer only goes up to about 200 degrees, candy ones go up way higher.

I love your aprons too.

Happy Belated Birthday, Angeleen!

A digital thermometer has a probe with a wire on it so it can be stuck in the meat, but the base unit is outside the oven where you can read it.

Also, as you can imagine, being digital and all, they're very precise so I use them for a lot of things, like proofing yeast and knowing the exact moment a roast has reached medium rare.

As I have gone through FOUR of them, however, my candy thermometer has proven to be much sturdier. Funny since it's GLASS!

I'm always breaking my candy thermometers. I've gone through about four of them.

I'm just impressed that you actually own a meat thermometer.

(Of course, this is coming from someone who eats out 40% of the time, zaps something in the microwave 50% of the time, and considers the fact that I cook 10% of the time a MAJOR accomplishment! :))

40 years old and feeling good!!!
